Written by admin on July 1, 2008 – 4:55 pmThe Situation: I’m on vacation against my will. I’m trapped in Coatesville, PA sitting around doing nothing.
What happening now: I have oodles of time to fix and hack and work on our little site. You’ve seen some of the results.
What I need from you: I need everyone to chime in here or via email. Things you like. Things you hate. Things that need to change.
Our numbers are down, but I think it’s a good thing. Half of the people who were here never wrote. I didn’t delete users, I just deleted blogs that’d been inactive for 90 days or more. We needed the space, we needed to be optimized. If you haven’t seen a significant increase in speed over the last 2 weeks, then leave a comment. The blogs weren’t weighing us down - our platform can support 200k individual sites. The caretaking was killing us. It was taking hours to track down every error. Some people had VERY gay passwords - well, i couldn’t see them, but they got comprimised - which allowed spammers to set in and spam us to death. They were exploiting the fact that people weren’t moderating emails in groups of 200. Come on, ya’ll - thats 200+ emails someone got and just ignored. Anyone who was sitting on 200+ comment spams was never coming back anyways.
So we got our dedicated box which we don’t share with no one. I think the site about 40 solid hours from being perfectly back in shape. Pig and Miracle (M&M) have absolute control down to the command line. That’s good for us because they both have more experience with this stuff than I do. We’re looking at Fantasy Sports - and everyone here has a chance to put some cash in their pockets. More to follow on that.
Bloging-wise: 4000 unique readers a month - with solid content and advertising - will earn you about $250 a week. Straight up, I’ve done the math. That’s money you keep for yourselves and you get free admin’ing from fellow bloggers. One guy I know - the upstart blogger - posts 3 times a week and is making bank. There’s no reason every one of us can’t do the same.
We’re moving into the hot season and everyone can do their thing.
A few folks left of their own accord and I’m happy for them. Good luck. Maintaining a blog is serious business. I you need help, feel free to email, call or text me - I’ll do what I can.
see ya on the flipside

I have no complaints. I know I’ve gotten whacked with SPAM and had difficulty accessing other blogs and comment on them, but Demon you worked hard to correct that. I can get on-board with that. You’ve helped me a ton. If I have any suggestions you know I’ll shoot you an e-mail. For now, I’m tapped on questions.

Can you find me an agent so I can negotiate a blogging contract?
Things look pretty sharp. I’ve got no complaints. Most of the issues I run into are strictly user error. And those that aren’t you’ve straightened out.
I’m not sure what has been done on the fantasy sports. I’m pretty much a dumbshit, so that might be the only thing I can actually help with. Maybe commish some leagues or something like that.

It’s to everyone’s advantage to be a little bit security conscience when choosing a password. Something with a combination of numbers/letters/caps I’m not sure if WP has a limitation on what special characters you can use(google does)
Be smart, if you use “password” as your password you need your nut sack removed.
If anyone’s interested clicky here to see who we will be partnering with on fantasy sports http://www.fanstar.com/
Hopefully this will be up in time for me to defend my football title, and we can get the hell away from Yahoooooo.
You beat me to it D, I was going to throw up a “how we doing’” post this morning.
Two responses? I guess everybody else is copacetic and we don’t need to change anything or add any features.

I’m not a computer guy. Nooo. Really? Really.
So, I have a question. When I’m typing up a new post how can I get the screen that it is entering in to appear larger. The screen is only 3 or 4 lines big. I would like to be able to see more of my post than that as I type it. How do I expand that screen?
One more. I’ve tried to delete some of my posts from the main page and they won’t. How can I do that?
Bring on the fantasy and new features, Mirc.
As for everything else, as Billy D would say, “Solid.”

Mackey what Internet browser are you using.
Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari…….
I usually browse the site with Opera, but it has issues with pics when composing so I use SeaMonkey(firefox clone) for writing.
Are you trying to delete the post, or just get it off of the front page?

Good post! I plan to move into this stuff after I’m done with school, as most of it is time consuming. It’s a great post to reference back to. My blog needs more time to gain in popularity anyway.
