Updates, bitches…

Posted October 7th, 2008 by demonicume

in the on-going war against entropy, I have completed some updates and added a shitload of features.

Cool Feature#1:CommentLuv! finds the last blog post in the background while your commenter is typing their comment and displays it below the comment form. When they submit the comment, it automatically adds the last post using the text specified by the blog owner to the comment before submission. If no feed was found or their site was not contactable, it will show them what error has occurred before they submit. Example Below:

This gives a lil love back to your readers who comment.

I’ve already activated it for everyone. to make it work, you’ll need to go to SETTINGS -> COMMENTLUV. Once you’ve saved the setting there, it’ll work.

Cool Feature#2: I’ve finally settled on a support option. This sets up a comprehensive support system for your MU. It has an FAQ, Video Tutorial Library, and Support Ticket systems.

click here and use common sense.

Cool Feature#3: Domain Mapping - this means you can have your own blog with the support that we provide here at RSB, but with your own domain. So if your site is myblog.realsportsbloggers.com - you can purchase the domain ‘myblog’ and set up your blog so that it looks like ‘myblog.com’. See? the set up is simple and is free. All in all, it’ll cost like 10 bones to buy a domain.

goto MANAGE -> DOMAIN MAPPING

goto MANAGE -> DOMAIN MAPPING

That’s it for now. Play around the backend a a bit and see the stuff i didn’t mention.

Holla!

The Situation: I’m on vacation against my will. I’m trapped in Coatesville, PA sitting around doing nothing.

What happening now: I have oodles of time to fix and hack and work on our little site. You’ve seen some of the results.

What I need from you: I need everyone to chime in here or via email. Things you like. Things you hate. Things that need to change.

Our numbers are down, but I think it’s a good thing. Half of the people who were here never wrote. I didn’t delete users, I just deleted blogs that’d been inactive for 90 days or more.  We needed the space, we needed to be optimized. If you haven’t seen a significant increase in speed over the last 2 weeks, then leave a comment. The blogs weren’t weighing us down - our platform can support 200k individual sites. The caretaking was killing us. It was taking hours to track down every error. Some people had VERY gay passwords - well, i couldn’t see them, but they got comprimised - which allowed spammers to set in and spam us to death. They were exploiting the fact that people weren’t moderating emails in groups of 200. Come on, ya’ll - thats 200+ emails someone got and just ignored. Anyone who was sitting on 200+ comment spams was never coming back anyways.

So we got our dedicated box which we don’t share with no one. I think the site about 40 solid hours from being perfectly back in shape. Pig and Miracle (M&M) have absolute control down to the command line. That’s good for us because they both have more experience with this stuff than I do.  We’re looking at Fantasy Sports - and everyone here has a chance to put some cash in their pockets. More to follow on that.

Bloging-wise: 4000 unique readers a month - with solid content and advertising - will earn you about $250 a week. Straight up, I’ve done the math. That’s money you keep for yourselves and you get free admin’ing from fellow bloggers. One guy I know - the upstart blogger - posts 3 times a week and is making bank. There’s no reason every one of us can’t do the same.

We’re moving into the hot season and everyone can do their thing.

A few folks left of their own accord and I’m happy for them. Good luck. Maintaining a blog is serious business. I you need help, feel free to email, call or text me - I’ll do what I can.

see ya on the flipside
